Gymnastics was a long time team sport that LHS student athletes actively participated in. In the late 1980s, there was a decision made by NMAA (New Mexico Activities Association), the entity that governs prep sports, to discontinue gymnastics as a sanctioned team sport. Reasons usually cited for this include the low number of schools participating, the cost of acquiring and maintaining the equipment, the lack of dedicated space in gymnasiums, small crowds and the like. 1990 appears to be the final year that a state meet was held.
The gymnastics team at LHS was a well loved team sport which involved many students over the years.
